Bass
Im not sure about you, but Bass are where I cut my teeth as an angler. Though as time ticked by spin was replaced by fly, and bass were swapped out for trout. Eventually the Spey rod made it’s appearance and the Steelhead addiction took over.
Fast forward a dozen years and our Steelhead are in trouble. There are many contributing factors but the bottom line is, it is way harder to find those fish than it use to be. There are other factors as well that brought me back to my childhood friend. Their ferocious appetite, their top-water friendly nature, and the sheer number of them within an hour of Portland. With our summers appearing to stretch out longer and longer, this is a great sport fish to chase most of the year.
